| Q: Do I have to try out to make the team? |
| A: Yes,
tryouts are held, but remember that we need riders at all levels.
Tryouts
are held at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, but
arrangements may be made at any time of year. If too many riders at a
given
level tryout for the team, they may be wait listed. If spaces open up,
some riders who have been wait listed may be asked to join.
Riders who have been on the team at the lower levels
have to try out from year to year. |
| Q: How many riders are on the team and what criteria are used in selecting them? |
| A: 30
to 35 A successful candidate will be fit, athletic, have a good
attitude and be able to take instruction. While this is a competitive
team, the ultimate focus is on developing good riders. |
| Q: I haven't ridden in a few years. Should I try out for the team? |
| A: It is
recommended that you be actively riding before trying out. Even taking
lessons over the summer before school will help. |
| Q: What if I don't make the team? |
| A: You
may take advantage of the farm's excellent lesson program to improve your
skills and tryout again at a later date.

| Q: Do I need my own horse? |
| A: No,
the team's trainer supplies the horses.
|
| Q: Do I have to be a great rider? |
| A: All
levels of rider are welcome. We have riders who range in ability from first
year beginners to Grand Prix competitors.

| Q: What are the required time commitments? |
| A: A minimum
of two lessons each week, two hours of mandatory help at the barn as well as attendance at weekly meetings. Riders
should allot about three hours of free time on lesson days.

| Q: What costs are involved? |
| A: You
will be responsible for your lesson fees, currently $700-800 per semester,
entry fees for competitions, which are $28/class, and other nominal expenses.
Lesson fees are paid in their entirety at the beginning of each semester
and are non-refundable.

| Q: What if I don't have or cannot afford show attire? |
| A: You
may borrow clothing from another team member.
|
| Q: What do we wear to lessons? |
| A: Riders
are required to wear boots and breeches to lessons. Chaps are acceptable
only during the colder months. All riders must wear ASTM certified helmets when mounted.

| Q: Can I get academic credit for being on the team? |
| A: Riders
may receive PE credit for team participation for one year. Internships
may also be arranged which are eligible for credit from UVM.

| Q: May I bring my own horse to school? |
| A: Yes.
There are always a number of student-owned horses which are boarded at
Imajica. If you interested in doing so, please contact us as soon as possible
since stalls are available only on a limited basis.

| Q: May I bring my own saddle? |
| A: Yes,
but note that there is limited space for student's saddles.
Q: I am interested in applying to UVM. May I schedule an appointment to speak with you and visit the farm? A: You are welcome to come to the farm for a self-guided tour. Because Imajica is a private facility and usually very busy, I do not meet with prospective students. |
